Not sure why they call it brown coat when it is grey, but we put it in to create a smooth surface for the tile to adhere to.
After the tile is done we pour coping. this needs a backerboard to ensure it is level.
The tile around the skimmers and above the steps is always a bit trickier. So we do those last.
Fresh coping always looks so nice.
After the coping cures we come back to put relief cuts in. As my uncle says, "There are only two types of concrete, 'cracked and will-crack.'" The relief cuts ensure it will crack where we want it to.
At the end, usually after the pool is filled up, we add the depth marker tiles.
