When we cut the walls in, we leave it very rough so the plaster adheres to the concrete. For the tile bed we need it smooth. We chip the top of the wall, so we are able to browncoat.
Browncoating is applying a thin layer of cement to make a smooth finish for the tile bed.
Our waterline tile is six inches high. We screw siding boards to help support the tile from moving.
Once the boards are set, we lay a thin layer of mortar and install the waterline tile.
Concrete ladders and railing cups are placed for electrician to bond.
Electrician uses acorns to bond wire to our cups and concrete reinforcement.
Often times as we pull forms off the coping, the concrete has gaps or needs a bit of patchwork.
Stairs were formed and poured the same day as coping.
