When we shoot a pool or spa, we leave it very rough so when we plaster it will adhere to the concrete. We need a smooth and level bed for the tile, so we come back and do a layer of concrete (browncoat) to the tile bed, stairs, and bench.
We place a siding board on top of the wall, so we have a level tile bed.
We browncoat the bench mainly for the tile we will install on the edge, but also to ensure the bench is flat and level before applying plaster.
We cut into the coping to lay depth tile markers around the pool and spa.

Finishing the tile on the outside of the spa. Tile is then grouted and depth tile markers are cut in.
